This piece titled Grandma is a tribute to Marcel’s late grandmother, Selia “Sadie” Gomez, who recently passed away in 2025 due to Kidney failure. She was a beautiful, hardworking, and intelligent woman who was always remembered for her presence. This piece not only pays homage to her and her contributions to Marcel’s family, but also represents the obstacles she may have faced in her life. The texture and colors of the painting reflect the turmoil she may have experienced. Earth tones, such as black, brown, and tan, were chosen to honor Sadie's acceptance and treatment of everyone, regardless of their background or skin color. She treated us all with grace and fairness. With red being the color of her favorite flower (A natural Rose), it was imperative that it be added in an abstract manner. May her soul rest in peace. This painting is a heartfelt dedication to her.
